Heather, Charles K. Corporal. 6200185. Middlesex Regiment

Corporal Heather was imprisoned at Shanghai due to being too sick to travel. In 1945 he was reportedly hospitalised, whilst still in Shanghai, due to serious illness. He then appears to have been moved to the Military Internment Camp in Peking and then possibly transferred to Shanghai/St Luke’s Hospital, and subsequently released to Allied custody in May 1945.

Hewer, Edward H.J. Signalman. 2324099. Royal Signals


Signalman Hewer died during the sinking of the Lisbon Maru.

Hickenbottom [Morley], Dennis J. Bandsman. 3054454. Royal Scots

Bandsman Morley was held at Osaka 2b POW Camp (Kobe House). After the camp was bombed on 6 June 1945, he was held at Maruyama until 19 June 1945, and then transferred to Nagoya 10b POW Camp, where he remained until liberation. He had enlisted, and served under, the surname Hickenbottom.
 
Dennis Morley, who was believed to be the last living survivor of the Lisbon Maru massacre, died on 3 January 2021, at the age of 101.

Hodgson, Colin F. Signalman. 2323119. Royal Signals


Signalman Hodgson was liberated from Osaka 1b POW Camp. He was Mentioned in Despatches, 29 August 1946, in recognition of his ‘gallant and distinguished services in the defence of Hong Kong’.



Hogan, William. Gunner. 1426776. 8th Coast Regiment


Gunner Hogan died during the sinking of the Lisbon Maru.

Telegraphist Hughieson served as one of the POW hospital staff at Ichioka hospital, and later at Kobe hospital.
